Not quite a brush, not quite a palette knife – Catalyst Blades and Wedges are an innovative line of creative tools for artists from Princeton Brushes. Read on as we discover new ways of applying paint and creating textures using these unique tools.
Catalyst tools are much more than painting tools. Crafted from flexible silicone or hard nylon to allow artists a new form of expression. Catalyst Blades, Mini-Blades, Wedges, and Contours come in unique shapes for a variety of different textures in your art.
Designed for use with heavy-bodied paints, Catalyst is at home with oils, acrylics, and water-miscible oils. Because they are heat-resistant to 234 °C, they excel with encaustics. Artists use them with plaster, clay, surface coating, food crafting, and much more.
Catalyst Blades & Wedges: Catalyst tools are crafted from flexible silicone to allow artists a new form of expression. Available in two styles: Catalyst Wedges are ergonomically designed to fit in your hand allowing a direct interaction with your work. Catalyst Blades are mounted on artist brush handles offering a blend of tradition and innovation.
Designed for use with heavy-bodied paints, Catalyst is at home with oils, acrylics, and water-miscible oils. Because they are heat-resistant, they excel with encaustics. Artists are using them with plaster, clay, and even frosting. Made of FDA-approved silicone, Catalyst Blades and Wedges are great for food crafting. For Fluid Acrylics & Heavybody Paints: Working with heavy-body paints and media is where Catalyst Blades, Wedges, and Polytip Brushes really shine. There are endless uses for Catalyst tools with heavy body paints including mixing media and color of different viscosities, laying down thick layers of paint with a variety of textures, embedding objects, and collage can all be done with efficiency and ease.
Polytip Brushes For Water Mixable Oil Paints:
With plenty of spring and resilience, Catalyst Polytip Bristle Brush holds paint, blends well, and keeps its shape when loaded with paint. Since each filament has two to three flags, a first for artist brushes, Catalyst replicates the finest natural bristle and has real integrity in water.
This series of brushes are super stiff yet extremely responsive. Unlike natural hog bristle, Catalyst has real integrity in water. The true advance in these brushes is the Polytip feature. The tip of each individual hair has been split to replicate the natural flags on the finest natural bristle.
By giving each individual hair 2 to 3 distinct tips, Catalyst is able to hold a higher volume of paint while providing a smoother application.
Designed for use with medium to heavy-bodied acrylics and oil paints, Catalyst Polytip brushes push even heavy gel mediums with assurance.
Miscellaneous Use Cases: Catalyst tools are great for designing interesting textures with wax resist. A unique tool for wax application, you can make marks confidently either directly on your substrate or hot palette. Because the tools are made of heat-resistant silicone, cooled wax peels right off, making cleanup a snap. Catalyst Blades and Wedges are heat resistant to 234°C which makes them the ideal tool for encaustics.
Made of flexible silicone and made in a variety of shapes, these tools work well not only for blending encaustic paint on your heated palette, they are ideal for creating unique textures in your finished artwork. Clean-up & Maintainance: Clean-up is a breeze with Catalyst Blades and Wedges. The silicone is easy to wipe clean and is solvent resistant. Clean up in most cases can be done with mild soap and water. Dried paint can be peeled off the silicone surface. Catalyst blades can even be separated from their wood handles for cleaning and easily replaced when dry. Click here to check out the entire range of Catalyst Blades, Wedges & Polytip brushes.
